Chefs often say, "We eat with our eyes first!" Mine went wide as I watched a friend pack a coffee cup with cooked rice, hold a plate over and invert it. So I tried it with slaw using a 1-cup measuring cup. A pastry ring would work too but I prefer to use one for plating two compatible, hot or cold soups. Position the ring in the bowl, fill in and around to the desired levels, then towel in hand to catch drips, quickly lift the ring up and out of the bowl.
